This directory is for Northgate Centre in north Edmonton.
The two floors is not identical. The main floor is the retail level, featuring the big stores we all cross the neighbourhood to get to. The upper level host many health services, dental offices, and clinic, as well as a smaller mix of small shops and food.
By indicating which of these plates you’re on, the map earns its place: before you pick a door, you know which one. The search box is in the upper left. Enter a name and the plan scrolls to that unit on the proper level. No name? Open one of those sidebar categories and stick there. Electronics, health, food and services is divided up so the list doesn’t collapse a medical appointment, a pharmacy-type errand and a spot for a meal into the same column. It shows the same description as a name in the list when you click the yellow shape.
Scroll wheel zooms, or use the buttons at the bottom right. Full screen on a phone make the units readable even while you’re still in the car. This is when the level is still changing what door you pick.
The big pin: Walmart and Safeway on the main floor. The other big pin is Dollarama. When it’s a quick pick-up of something at any one of these places, they live in the same retail universe. You won’t find a little kiosk that’ll get you pointed in the right direction. Look for the big footprint closest to your errand, then hunt down the smaller name and go from there.
When it’s a dentist appointment, imaging or physio clinic visit, plan on the directory opening up the top floor. That’s why we have the level button here. Those are the types of services that justify adding another escalator to what should of been a straightforward trip. People does this by parking for their grocery run, and then hoping to make it past the clinic on their way back out.
The same is true for food. Retail stops include a pause at McDonald’s on the main floor. The clinics upstairs may have a counter or a small dining room. The note will tell you whether it’s a place to collect something or sit down. If you’re meeting somebody, read it.
Not every open room has a listed name, and the directory won’t tell you the hours for today. Phone repairs and fashion are also on the plan, but they aren’t the entire building. If all you need is an alteration or a repair, keep that in mind rather than tour the retail floor.

137 Avenue has parking and streets all around it, and your closest door will depend on which pin you picked. Look at that before you lock the car on the far side. Zoom in, and look at how high you are above ground level (full screen, then hit the buttons in the lower right for more): is there any chance the two appointments are on different floors? Or are they even in the same corridor? If so, deliberately make the upper appt first or last instead of finding out only after you’ve done the shopping.
Level it out loud before parking if there’s more than one of you on this adventure. You might have a clinic upstairs and I might have Safeway, but those are separate doors even within the same building. Look at that picture together so you can both see what it says. Name the floor. Name the pin. Then let the rest go.
When the vertical portion is determined in the car, the trip to north Edmonton is quick and easy. Things change: Leases do, clinic hours do, even more so on holidays when a medical office might not be open but a retail store is. Double-check that it’s the stop you came for. That’s what the level control and categories are for; so a quick errand to the north end doesn’t turn into a tour of both floors.
